Complaints decision summaries

We investigate complaints about the conduct of local authority councillors and board members of public bodies. We assess their conduct against the relevant Code of Conduct.

Where the Commissioner concludes that there has been a breach of the Code, we report this to the Standards Commission for Scotland. The Standards Commission normally hold a public hearing to decide the matter and then publish their decision.

In cases where the Commissioner finds that there was no breach of the Code, we may decide to publish a decision summary.

These are selected because of their potential interest for local authority Monitoring Officers and others who may be involved in making or dealing with complaints.

Along with the Standards Commission’s published decisions, they illustrate how circumstances and behaviours may be assessed against the relevant Code.
