We have significantly reduced the time it takes to let complainers know whether their complaints are admissible for investigation, and we are continuing to improve on these waiting times. You can find average timescales for each stage of the complaint handling process for all complaints on this page of our website.

About Public Appointments

Ensuring public appointments are fair and open

We regulate appointments to over 100 public bodies in Scotland, who are responsible for the delivery of essential, everyday public services to its people - from providing health and social care, to education, to justice, to supporting economic development, and so much more. These public bodies are governed by Boards, which are responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of these public bodies. Board membership of these public bodies consists primarily of public appointments made by Scottish Ministers, through a process delivered on their behalf by the Scottish Government.

Our role, as regulator of the public appointments process in Scotland, is to ensure that public appointments are made on merit using methods that are fair and open, so that the best people, regardless of background, have a chance to govern Scotland’s public bodies.
